A.S. Recycling hasn’t had a base fee increase since 2006. Since then the program has gone through a lot of change. Inflation, minimum wage increases, and our role in the campus community have all increased as time has gone on.
Recycling has been surviving on its current lock-in for the past years because of COVID restrictions and years spent without a Career Staff Program Coordinator resulting in a substantial rollover. However, each year we have to pull from that rollover to balance our budget. The rollover won’t last forever. Office changes, renovations, and moves are only decreasing that time.
A fee increase of a little over a dollar would provide us with the stability to not only withstand the increase in labor costs but allow us to pursue further programs to help divert waste from the landfill which we haven’t had the luxury of doing for some time.
Fee Increase from $1.78 to $3.00
