STATEMENT

Hi Gauchos! I’m Victoria (Vicky) Ly, and I’m excitedly running to be your Internal Vice President. A little bit about me… I’m a third year Sociology and Psychological & Brain sciences double major. I’ve been involved in student government ever since elementary school, from sixth grade class president to now being your 76th Associated Students Off-Campus Senator. At my core, I’ve always been passionate about serving my community, doing what I can to make it a better place. I’m lucky enough to lead many communities on campus, from president of the Women’s Rugby team to my positions in the Associated Student Senate and the Isla Vista Community Relations Committee. My extensive involvement gives me confidence that I can best understand and represent the diverse groups that form UCSB.

As IVP, one of my priorities would be improved communication between Associated Students and the student body. With students spending $241.18 every quarter, I’m dedicated to increasing awareness of how your student fees are being spent and the services available to you. I’ll ensure A.S. is held accountable for ensuring these funds go towards the larger student body. Whether that’s distributing cards with important A.S. resources or centralized tabling and social media efforts, I’m committed to keeping our campus connected. An informed student is an empowered one, and I’d make sure your voices are heard. I’d reduce the barriers by having A.S. come to you with in person outreach.

Additionally, I’d foster collaboration and partnerships with campus entities to make change happen. I’d work with our A.S. organizations to promote their programs and create new ones. I’d advocate for campus-wide initiatives that serve the wider student body, including A.S. transparency, student safety initiatives, and expanding food accessibility for all students – continuing the work that I’ve done this year in the 76th Senate. As the IVP is chair of the Senate, I’d push for internal structural improvements and support so that time is better spent working on the great initiatives that directly benefit the student body. You deserve an Association and leaders that have you in mind first, and I will be that person.

I’m continuing what 11-year old me started, which is doing what I can to support and improve the school community I call home. I’d be honored if you’d vote Vicky Ly for IVP, thank you!
