STATEMENT
Hi Gauchos! My name is Romi Riss, and I’m a History of Public Policy and Law student and current Off-Campus Senator. I’m running to be your next External Vice President for Statewide Affairs!
Over the past year as a senator, I’ve turned student concerns into action. Fighting for safety and transparency. But my work isn’t finished.
As a low-income student supporting myself, I understand what it means to live paycheck to paycheck. UC and state decisions impact our daily lives. Whether it’s housing costs, food access, or safety.
I’m running to ensure these decisions reflect the realities students are actually facing.
Housing is our most urgent crisis. As EVPSA, I will work directly with UCSA, state legislators, and local leaders to push for real, actionable HOUSING SOLUTIONS.
Student safety remains a top priority. From addressing sexual violence in IV to advocating for undocumented students, I will build on the work we’ve started by pushing for preventative, LOCALIZED solutions that make our community SAFER and more supportive for everyone.
At the state level, I will navigate policy barriers like the California Coastal Commission (CCC) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to ensure that critical student needs like housing, safety infrastructure, and community resources can be implemented while maintaining environmental responsibility.
The EVPSA office and UCSA should be a force for meaningful policy and TANGIBLE results. I will prioritize bringing student ideas into statewide advocacy, making sure this office serves all student needs. I will leverage our Senate’s relationship with California Senator Monique Limón to turn student proposals into real legislation and direct impact.
I aim to reform the EVPSA office's structure to amplify UCSB students' voices at the state and federal levels. This office has the potential to be the BRIDGE between student voices and real change. I will turn your ideas, your concerns, and your needs into real action.
Thank you!
