STATEMENT
As a first generation Latina transfer student at UCSB, I understand firsthand that the journey to a four-year university is neither linear nor easy, and it is my own experience as well as the experiences of others like myself which propels me to run for ASUCSB Transfer Senator. For too long, we have seen a pattern wherein student leadership has not sufficiently reflected the full diversity of the communities it represents. I come from a background where higher education isn’t guaranteed, but can be earned through resilience, determination, and sacrifice. Navigating the transfer process while lacking the resources and guidance so many of my peers had gave me insight to the numerous barriers many transfer students, particularly those in underrepresented communities, face. My candidacy is rooted in the belief that proper representation is not only symbolic and necessary, but transformational. When leadership reflects students of backgrounds like my own, it leads to policies that are more inclusive, accessible, and equitable. My promise to you is this: I will advocate for increased transfer resources, push stronger community building programs, and promote greater transparency within ASUCSB so that every transfer student feels seen, heard, and supported. I am not just running for the sake of holding a position, but to create space, and to serve YOU. This institution needs a space for voices that historically have been excluded from decision-making conversations so we can make meaningful change.
