STATEMENT

Hi everyone, my name is Kyara Vivanco, and I’m running to be your Off-Campus Senator!

I am a second-year, first-generation student currently serving as a Campus Project Liaison staffer for the Advocacy Committee within Associated Students. Through this role, I’ve had the opportunity to table during finals, connect directly with students, and participate in important discussions about the future of UCSB. Being involved in these conversations showed me that I don’t just want to be present; I want to help lead and create change.

My first platform is redefining representation. UCSB is built on a diverse community of multicultural programs and student organizations that shape our everyday campus experience. However, not all groups receive the same level of visibility or support. I want to expand representation for all organizations, no matter their size, and ensure every student community feels seen and valued.

Second, I want to make accessing resources easier. While platforms like these exist, they can often feel overwhelming or difficult to navigate. I want to work with organizations to simplify access, improve visibility, and make sure students actually know what resources are available to them.

Lastly, I am focused on financial support and fee accountability. I want to host panels, workshops, and presentations that highlight scholarships, grants, and financial resources, while also increasing announcements and outreach so students actually hear about these opportunities. My goal is to make the process less overwhelming and more accessible, especially for first-year students, while ensuring student fees are being used in ways that directly benefit students.

I care about listening, showing up, and following through, and that's what I will devote myself to doing if voted for your next off-campus senator!
