STATEMENT

My name is Jonas Schneider, I’m a freshman History major, and I am running to be your Off-Campus Student Senator. I am committed to making Isla Vista a safer and more welcoming place for all students to live, and I believe that my background uniquely equips me to serve our community well.
I attended California Boys & Girls State, an annual mock government and civic leadership program in Sacramento, where I served as a City Attorney. I argued cases at trial, conducted legal research, and drafted municipal ordinances. My city was awarded the Model City distinction, which was given to only one of twenty participating groups, and demonstrated our commitment to policymaking and civic engagement.
Beyond the courtroom, I’ve strived to serve my local community. Over two summers, I logged hundreds of hours volunteering at food pantries in Los Angeles, working directly with individuals and families facing food insecurity. That work taught me that some of the most meaningful change can occur through direct and consistent action.
As your Off-Campus Senator, I will fight to improve safety and housing in Isla Vista. I want to give every prospective off-campus student more resources and access to housing, and mitigate the housing shortage currently present. I also intend to make the streets more well lit and expand current safety programs. I will bring the same rigor, preparation, and genuine care to this role that I have brought to every endeavor I have undertaken. UCSB students deserve a better off-campus life, and I would be honored to earn your vote.
