Jesse Guerrero
Off Campus Senator
Independent

STATEMENT

Hi Gauchos! My name is Jesse Guerrero and I'm a second-year studying Economics and Accounting. I'm ready to step up as your next Off-Campus Senator. Moving out of the dorms and into Isla Vista is such an exciting milestone. However, navigating the off-campus system shouldn't feel like a second full-time job.

It can also be incredibly difficult to thrive academically when you are stressed about rent, finding a lease/sublease, finding affordable groceries, or dealing with burnout. I am running because I want to ensure every off-campus student has the safety net they need to succeed. I will be advocating for policies that support mental health, safer neighborhoods, and lease literacy.

College is a major transitional period from being a kid to a young adult living without their parents. On top of that, you are also balancing living on your own with an intense course load. Because of this, I will fight to expand tailored mental health resources that help students who feel the pressures of burnout, independent living, and a work-school balance.

As your Off-Campus Senator, I will also advocate for crucial infrastructure improvements to provide a safer neighborhood. This includes adding better street lighting and repairing uneven sidewalks. Moreover, I will also be pushing for programs that aim to improve the living conditions in Isla Vista to ensure the highest level of safety in our community.

As many of us know, Isla Vista is an expensive place to live, and on top of that, landlords and leasing companies aren't always 100% transparent with you. I will advocate for lease review workshops and legal resources so you know exactly what you are signing and how to protect your security deposit.

I want to make sure that the resources funded by our tuition are actually working for us off-campus. Vote Jesse Guerrero for Off-Campus Senator!
