STATEMENT

Hi Gauchos!

I’m Jasmine Hsieh (she/her), majoring in biology, and I am running to be your next External Vice President of Statewide Affairs (EVPSA).

I have been in the EVPSA office since my freshman year as the Environmental Director and currently serve in the EVPSA office as the External Head of Staff. In these roles, I gained experience in coordinating university affairs efforts, serving as the deputy of the EVPSA, working closely with Lobby Corps, leading UCSB delegations to UC Student Association conferences, and organizing office operations.

In my time at UCSB, I led delegations of students for the Student Organizing Summit, Students of Color Conferences, where I led the East Asian caucus, Student Lobby Conferences, and UC Hill Day where I advocated for basic needs/affordability, accessibility, immigrant rights, racial justice, research funding, student representation, and free speech.

As a second gen queer disabled Taiwanese American, I will EXPAND funding for student services to increase retention and MOBILIZE historically underrepresented students to participate in lobbying opportunities. Additionally, I will PRIORITIZE that our campus fully adopts SB 98 and becomes a sanctuary for people discriminated against by the current administration.

As the External Head of Staff for the EVPSA office, I am committed to FULFILL office operation duties, statewide representation in UCSA and STREAMLINE communication and transparency.

As a Disabled Students Program peer mentor, I plan to ADVOCATE for increased funding to get our staff paid, speed up wait times, and provide resources and safe spaces for disabled students.

As a student worker at San Nicolas Residence Hall, I intend to work with the Student Labor Advocacy Project and labor unions to CHALLENGE administration for fair wages, ethical conditions, and necessary employee benefits.

So, keep a baddie in office and vote Jasmine Hsieh for EVPSA !!
