STATEMENT

Isla Vista should work for students but too often, it doesn’t.

Students living off campus deal with leases they don’t fully understand, landlords who ignore maintenance requests, streets with poor lighting at night, and bike hazards that stay unfixed until someone gets hurt. These aren’t one off problems... These issues are widespread across Isla Vista.

My name is Jake Horvitz, and I’m running to be your next Off Campus Senator to take on these issues directly.

Here’s exactly what I will do:

Housing & Tenant Rights: I will organize tenant rights workshops each quarter with UCSB Legal Resource Center, create a simple lease guide students can actually understand, and push for stronger enforcement against landlords who withhold deposits or ignore repairs.

Safety & Infrastructure: I will work with Isla Vista Community Services District to identify poorly lit streets, push for added lighting in high risk areas, and advocate for faster repairs to potholes and bike hazards.

Real Representation: I will hold monthly open forums for off campus students, actively collect concerns, and bring those directly to Associated Students so off campus issues are consistently addressed not ignored.

This is about fixing specific problems that students deal with every day not talking around them.

A vote for me is a vote for clearer leases, safer streets, and real follow through.
