Vote Hudson Palmer for Off-Campus Senator - Experience and financial responsibility

I am a first year economics and political science major who wants to use your vote to make Associated Students a more transparent and logical tool for students.

As a proxy in senate and a caseworker with the Office of the Student Advocate I have spent my time at UCSB learning about Associated Students and serving students. As a proxy in the senate I have first hand experience with what it means to work in the senate and I am aware of the issues that AS is currently dealing with. Also as a Financial and Academic Caseworker I have advised and defended students who are often victims of policy loopholes missed by the University. This has given me specific knowledge about the issues that students face and will make me an effective student advocate.

As a candidate for senate I pledge to emphasize financial responsibility as a keystone of my work. Recent senate’s have been spending more money every year and it is still extremely difficult for many campus organizations to get reliable funding. I plan to create a system where there are clearer standards for what will and will not be funded so that AS can properly manage its funding and clubs don’t have to rely on the ever changing opinions of the senate and its facets.

Transparency goes hand in hand with fiscal responsibility. Students deserve to know how their fees are being spent and to trust that the process is fair. I will work to make AS more open and easier for every student to engage with.
