STATEMENT

Fellow Gauchos,

My name is EJ Raad and I’m running to be your next AS President. I've spent this past year serving as External Vice President for Local Affairs, fighting for your rights in Isla Vista. Now, it's time to take that fight to the UC system at large as AS President.

Here’s exactly what I’ll do:

FIGHT FOR STUDENT RIGHTS:

As EVPLA, I’ve fought against over policing with Save Deltopia, against the housing crisis by launching the first-ever Rate My Landlord website, worked with non-profits to protect our peers like 805Undocufund and STESA (Standing Together to End Sexual Assault), and have advocated for IV Cityhood.

I will continue this fight at the UC level by fully reestablishing Late Night Study at the Library, advocating for the protection of marginalized groups to the UC President, and unite AS to support IV’s Incorporation so that we actually have a say in how we’re governed.

USE STUDENT FEES FOR STUDENT SERVICES:

As EVPLA, I’ve provided services for thousands of students, from STI Screen-A-Thons (free STI Screenings) for students, introducing the first-ever Sight-A-Thon (free Vision exams) for students, the Basic Needs Fair with the current AS President, and UCIV, the tents you see out on DP giving students non-police assistance and medical resources.

I’ll continue my commitment to using AS funds to directly serve students as President, by utilizing our $13.5M Rollover to expand these services to tackle food insecurity, the housing crisis, and essential health services.

NO FEE INCREASE:

At a time with rising costs and a weak job market, an Association with an 8-figure rollover has no place raising fees on our student body. I will commit to not raising the AS Fee at all during my time as President.

UCSB needs an AS President with a proven track record of fighting for YOU.
