STATEMENT

Hi everyone! My name is Chloe Shi. I am a first-year Geography (GIS) major, and I am currently running for the International Senator, representing the "Save the IV Party." I like photography and going to the gym. A fun fact: I have 9 cameras.
I was born in Beijing and moved to California during my high school; I currently live in San Jose. As an international student myself, I deeply understand the challenges involved in adapting to a new environment, facing language barriers, and experiencing homesickness. I hope to establish belonging for international students not only within the UCSB academic environment but also within the IV community life experiences.
I am always dedicated to building the community around me. Now, I am the International Engagement Chair for the San Nicolas Hall Council, trying to involve international students in our dorm and improve cross cultural communication. I organized a Chinese New Year celebration, having handcrafted and snacks for residents, and co-hosted a matcha mindfulness event, which more than 100 residents participated in. In the spring quarter, I am planning to bring more fun events and give more resources to international students.
I am also a board member for the UCSB Photography Club, where I have connections between people through shared interests and creative expression. Furthermore, I volunteer with the SciTrek program every quarter, teaching science concepts to children, which includes many non-native English speakers. This experience further strengthened my resolve to foster inclusivity within our community.
All of my experience has shaped me into someone who aspires to contribute to our big community. If I can be elected, I hope to organize more inclusive events, like cultural week; providing more resources, like career advising. Strengthen bridges connecting international students with various opportunities on and off campus.
Thank you for your support! I look forward to making more contributions in the future!
