STATEMENT

Hey Gauchos!!
My name is Adhya Akki, and I am a first-year Political Science major running with the Save Isla Vista Party for Off-Campus Senator. I am deeply committed to advocacy, your happiness, and ensuring that students are heard and valued.

In the past, I served on the San Ramon Valley School District Senate, where I represented over 4,000 students and worked to address student concerns through policy and collaboration. I have experience writing, reviewing, and lobbying for environmental justice legislation in the California State Senate, passing over 17 bills in one session. Additionally, I have worked with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to advocate for policy change in Washington, D.C meeting with multiple state representatives. Currently, I am part of the UCSB Mock Trial team and a Pearman Fellow in the External Vice President of the Statewide Affairs Office (EVPSA), and have gained insight into how AS works, but also what can be improved. I am working on a project to bridge the gap between underrepresented students and access to advocacy, in hopes to amplify student voices.

As much as we all love UCSB, there are things that need to be changed. If elected, I plan to make Isla Vista a cleaner, safer, and more equitable place to live. I will advocate for improved bike safety with fixed paths and lights, better housing conditions, and long-term efforts to incorporate Isla Vista into the city to expand rights and resources for students. This includes student voices being heard on matters such as Deltopia, Isla Vista housing, parking spaces, and safety with the aim that solutions actually become implemented. I also aim to bridge the gap between Associated Students and the broader student body at UCSB by increasing accessibility to representatives and ensuring students have transparency and knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes on campus. I am especially committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating more inclusive spaces for all students to feel seen and safe.

Vote for leadership that listens. Vote for action, accountability, and access. Act with Akki.
