STATEMENT

Hello, I’m Santino Gigliotti (He/Him), a third-year Political Science major, running to be your next Student Advocate General. I full-heartedly believe that every student, regardless of their background or intersectionalities, deserves to feel protected and empowered through upholding their Student Rights in our interactions with the University.

I know that conduct and unjust policy disputes are some of the most challenging and vulnerable times for individuals, organizations, and our community. That is why it is my promise to personally represent you all with principled leadership, compassion, and understanding to ensure that you are treated fairly, your voices are heard, and that our campus can continue to serve everyone. Having a proven background in advocacy for constituents from the local to the federal level in Congress, as Student Advocate General, I will apply my full heart and dedication to the betterment our campus.

Leadership & Professional Experience:
Public Outreach Office | U.S. House of Representatives | Congresswoman Peltola | (AK)
Legislative Policy Office | U.S. House Appropriations Committee | (CA41)
Environmental Awareness Chair | San Miguel Hall Executive Board |
Student Ambassador | National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)

As your Student Advocate General, my work will be centered on:
Providing resources and support regarding grade disputes, students' rights violations, disciplinary conduct, housing contract agreements, and university policy disputes.
Expanding support services, engaging communities often left out of campus dialogue, and challenging institutional practices that place undue burdens on students.
Increase awareness of the Office and Student Rights through outreach and resource training for student organizations and housing communities.
Improving equity and transparency in university disciplinary and policy processes by advocating for clearer statements, more consistent procedures, and stronger student protections.

Change starts with us. Let’s make UCSB fairer, more transparent, and more just, together!
Santino Gigliotti (Go Gauchos!)
