STATEMENT
My name is Samuel Safahi, and a new transfer student running for Transfer Senator. My major is economics and accounting, and I came from SBCC! I’m running because I believe UCSB can, and should, do more to support the students who arrive ready to contribute, but often find themselves navigating a system that wasn’t designed with them in mind.
Transfer students face unique challenges: limited academic guidance, delays in credit evaluations, and a steep social and institutional learning curve. I’ve experienced it firsthand and I’m committed to changing it.
As your Transfer Senator, I will advocate for guaranteed academic advising, streamlined credit processing, and expanded onboarding resources for incoming transfers. I will push for the creation of an official UCSB Discord server to give students a central hub for information, connection, and community. I’ll also work to increase on-campus social events like casual gatherings, mixers, pizza and doughnut socials, because community isn’t built in lecture halls alone.
There’s also been discussion about a weekly BBQ with alternative food options too, such as on the beach. We could have a BBQ event on the beach.
In addition, I will propose a student grant initiative, small, flexible funding opportunities to support student-led projects, events, or unexpected academic needs. Because sometimes a little help at the right moment makes a big difference.
This campaign is about delivering real results for students who deserve to feel seen, supported, and empowered. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d be honored to have your vote.
