Aryana Mahboob
Transfer Senator
Independent

STATEMENT

Hello, my name is Aryana , and I am running to be your Transfer Senator because our voices deserve to be heard. As a transfer student from Santa Barbara City College, I know firsthand how isolating it can feel to start fresh at a new school, trying to navigate an unfamiliar campus, build new friendships, and make up for lost time. That fear of missing out is real—but it doesn’t have to define our experience.

At UCSB, transfers make up a vital part of the student body, yet we often face unique challenges when it comes to community, resources, and representation. We deserve leadership that understands our experiences and works to ensure that every transfer student regardless of background feels welcomed, supported, and empowered.

If elected, I will fight for:

🛑 ENDING TRANSFER ISOLATION & FOSTERING COMMUNITY – Many transfer students struggle to find their place at UCSB. I will work to expand transfer-centered programming, improve networking opportunities, and create dedicated social spaces where we can build connections and truly feel at home here.

📚 ACADEMIC ACCESS & SUPPORT FOR TRANSFERS – We have limited time at UCSB, and we shouldn’t have to fight for required classes, clear academic guidance, or research opportunities. I will advocate for priority enrollment for transfers, streamlined advising, and better access to career-building resources.

💡 RESOURCES & REPRESENTATION FOR MARGINALIZED TRANSFERS – As a Mexican-Iranian student, I know what it means to navigate academia while being part of communities that are often overlooked. I will push for more support for BIPOC, first-gen, low-income, and non-traditional transfer students, including mentorship programs, financial aid resources, and safer spaces for underrepresented voices..

🏛 A TRANSFER EXPERIENCE THAT REFLECTS OUR NEEDS – Whether it’s advocating for better housing options, more accessible transportation, or funding for transfer-specific initiatives, I want to ensure that UCSB recognizes the needs of its transfer students and prioritizes our success.

I am committed to connecting with student organizations and transfer advocacy groups to make sure that your concerns are heard and addressed. If you or your organization are facing challenges, I will stand by you, amplify your voice, and work alongside you to create real change.
Leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about taking action when students need it most. If you have ever felt unheard, unseen, or unprotected as a transfer student at UCSB, know that I see you, I hear you, and I will fight for you.
