STATEMENT
Greetings everyone, my name is Amna Chaudhry and I’m running for University Owned Off-Campus Senator because I want to continue working toward making UCSB a better, safer, and more welcoming place for all students. I’ve been involved in the Associated Students Senate, so I already have experience with how things work and what it takes to make real changes. As being an officer or just a member of many organizations on campus I’ve seen firsthand the challenges that student organizations face and the gaps in support that exist for many students on campus.
One of the main things I want to focus on is expanding basic needs resources. A lot of students struggle with food insecurity and financial stress, and I want to push for better meal plan options, more accessible CalFresh resources, and emergency financial aid for students who need it most. No one should have to constantly worry about where their next meal is coming from while trying to focus on school.
Campus safety is another major concern. I want to work on improving lighting in unsafe areas and expanding mental health resources, especially for women and marginalized communities. Students should feel safe walking around campus at night and know that if they report a safety concern, it will actually be taken seriously.
I also want to improve support for cultural and student organizations. As someone leading a club, I know how frustrating it can be to deal with the university when it comes to funding, event spaces, and overall support. I want to make sure these processes are easier and that student orgs actually get the resources they need to thrive. Most importantly, I want to make sure all students, especially BIPOC, first-gen, LGBTQIA+, and transfer students, feel supported and have access to the same opportunities as everyone else. Whether that means fighting for more scholarships, leadership opportunities, or simply creating spaces where students feel seen and valued, I want to be part of making that happen. There's a lot more things I am anticipating in taking a part in as well and I am also open for anyone who needs help with any type of issues they're facing on campus and would like to bring any changes to campus. I want everyone to know that I am here as a resource so please feel free to reach out!
I’m running because I care about this community and want to make real, lasting changes. I’ve already started working on some of these initiatives, and I want to keep pushing for them at a larger level. Vote for me, and let’s work together to make UCSB a stronger, more inclusive campus.
