STATEMENT
Vote Noah Luken for Off-Campus Senator – Because A.S. should enhance your student experience, not burden it.
Student government shouldn’t be an exclusive club for budget approvals and closed-door meetings—it should be a tool for real change. That’s where I come in.
I’m Noah Luken, a second-year Economics and Philosophy major running to make A.S. finally work for you. I’m also a nerd about policy, which helps!
Too often, A.S. quietly passes resolutions that don’t directly benefit you. For example, the Senate this year passed a resolution to “affirm their strong support” for “enduring dining hall reform.” Instead of allocating money or creating a program to help, the Senate thought the best they could do was to send their best wishes to those actually doing the hard, important work.
It's a shame that your student fees every quarter aren’t put to optimal use. While the current Senate uses their super-duper strong words, here’s what I want to concretely fix:
1. TRANSPARENCY FOR STUDENT FEES – You pay them, you should know where they go. No more hoping the “U/G Campus Fee” and “Stdt Services Fee” on your BARC statements ($1,000+ per quarter) are being put to good use without knowing exactly how your money is being spent. I'll push for clear, accessible breakdowns so we can hold A.S. leaders and administration accountable.
2. REAL SUPPORT FOR FOOD & HOUSING INSECURITY – No student should be picking between an online textbook and groceries. I’ll fight for expanded meal-share programs, emergency housing support, and stronger financial aid advocacy.
3. BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS TO STUDENT GOVERNMENT – A.S. should serve you, not be a closed-door club. I’ll push for better outreach so you know what A.S. is doing and how it can improve your student experience.
I’m not here to build a resume—I’m here to make sure A.S. works for you. If you want a representative looking out for your best interests who reads the fine print (and enjoys it!), vote Noah Luken for Off-Campus Senator.
