Simai Kang
On Campus Senator
Independent

STATEMENT

Hey Gauchos, my name is Simai Kang, an incoming Sophomore studying Philosophy and English. As your next on-campus senator, I wish to give back the student fees you deserved! My first focus would be to bring back the Library 24/7. When I was a parliamentarian during my previous year in office, the communication between the Associated Students and the administration of the library had always been a challenge. What I would do is to collaborate with other future senators to negotiate with the library for more alternative solutions. For example, open a small portion of the library during the night with night guards and college staffers on duty. Providing a safe and quiet space for you is crucial to your academic success. Secondly, due to my experience as a parliamentarian working directly under the Internal Vice President, I will also dedicate myself and time to legislation and to use my past knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order to help strengthen our legal code and beyond. Thirdly, I will also work on promoting the importance of basic needs for our students. I would collaborate with my colleagues to give out free blue books and other test materials for students who are in need. Lastly, I would also work on promoting A.S. outreach. What I will do is host events to advocate and outreach to student hearts. One idea would be to host sessions to ask students what they truly needed. Free snacks, free drinks, and hosting study jams for our fellow students will also be a way to care for our student body.
